Could the rising prices on housing be the key to the ghetto problem?

WE Architecture June 20, 2018

"Over the past few years we have witnessed dramatically rising housing prices in the larger Danish cities. At the same time, the refugee crisis and the increasing issues of crime in the so-called Ghetto areas have been sharply criticized by several government parties, resulting in the new Ghetto plan. But, could it be that these parallel trends may be each other’s solution?"

Read the debate about WE's reflections over the new ghetto plan and the plan for Gellerup in Byplan Nyt (page 19) here.

WE just received Børsen’s Gazelle award 2018. It is a great pleasure to receive recognition for the growth that WE has performed and worked hard to attain the past couple of years. #gazelle2018
RUM magazine stopped by to shoot our office space. We are looking forward to see the final result in the March edition. @rum_id
The merging of Slotsbjergby Day Care Center and Hashøj School is an ambitious project that is based on a unique tradition for close and holistic collaboration between the school and the day care center. Combined with a great deal of creativity and courage to think out of the box the steering community, which includes the school leader, the head of the day care center and the municipal project leader, has used the opportunity to rethink the school as a service function. They have included other local user groups as residents of the nearby nursing home, home office entrepreneurs and the local church and gathered the area's activities at the school. By creating flexible surroundings that can be modified to different users, the local life will be intensified in an active house of life. At the same time, a higher architectural quality is attained. By renovating existing and double-programming activities, the vision is to build small but smart.
As a recipient of the Dreyers Fond’s grant WE got the distinguished opportunity to show our work at BLOX to the outside world and thereby gain a voice in the debate about new Danish architecture. The exhibition “WE” has been located in the staircase gallery in the central foyer of BLOX within the latest weeks as part of the Dreyers Arkitektur Galleri exhibition row. From Saturday it will partly be moved to the upstairs permanent exhibition “Made in Denmark”. Made in Denmark is an exhibition series with a series of small scenes of sound, movies and furniture that you meet on your way around the house. Our pixelated multifunctional furniture will be part of the exhibition by creating a platform to sit in and move around while exploring the exhibition content and why Danish architecture and design have international star status.
The studio is our engine room – our beating heart – into which WE would like to provide you with a direct insight. That is why WE have moved a group of architects to DAC, creating a pop-up studio. WE do it in order to demonstrate the underlying processes behind the architecture we create, in the most honest and open way that WE can: An actual insight into our everyday life and an opportunity to meet our architects at work.
When WE shape architecture WE create the frame for future communities. Our task is therefore essential: Focusing on community, WE as architects must create the optimal conditions for the years to come. See more about how community is the centre of our architecture, creative processes and work environment in our exhibition at DAC – still running this week until Friday. See you there!
WE is looking for a new PR intern, follow the link in bio for more information
