– Where past and future meet in a sustainable framework for play, learning and care.

Rooted in the principles of Bedre Byggeskik (Better Building Practice) and the local development plan, the architecture features simple, robust, and functional solutions using durable, sustainable, and natural materials. The design prioritizes ease of maintenance and long-term performance without compromising spatial quality.

A key element is the site’s history. Located on a former stadium and sports ground now transforming into a residential area, the daycare center incorporates materials from the demolished stadium hall to preserve and reinterpret the narrative. This creates an architectural bridge between past and future, giving the building distinct identity and authenticity.

Sustainability and reuse are fundamental to the concept. Recycled materials reduce the carbon footprint, while new materials are carefully selected for quality, longevity, and low maintenance. The building is designed to age gracefully and operate efficiently, with robust surfaces and minimal resource consumption.

The spatial layout encourages a natural flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Varied room sizes, abundant daylight, and direct access to outdoor areas bring nature into the building, while a semi-covered transition zone connects interior spaces to the playground, integrating outdoor play seamlessly. The design promotes a healthy indoor climate through natural ventilation, quality materials, and aims for Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification.
